How long does a Home Buyers survey take?

An RICS HomeBuyer Report gives you indispensable information on the condition of the property you’re considering purchasing, as well as advising your solicitor on how to act in your best interests moving forward. With an easy-to-understand colour coding system, the report will highlight and prioritise individual elements of the property and highlight areas of potential concern – such as structural damage, or damp. Additionally, our report, carried out by an RICS Chartered Surveyor, will include professional advice on repair and ongoing maintenance requirements, as well as a market valuation, and a reinstatement cost.
A survey is one of the most important stages of buying a house, but how long does it take?
Our surveyor will usually be at the property for 1-2 hours, where they will carefully inspect the property – taking note of any concerns. The precise time required to undertake a homebuyers survey can vary according to the size, layout, age and condition of the property.
Homebuyers can request a survey before they make an offer on a property, however usually surveys are commissioned after an offer has been accepted, with the offer being conditional on significant or expensive issues not being found in the survey.
After your surveyor has concluded their inspection, it takes approximately 5 working days for your report to be completed. Again, this time can be shorter or longer – depending on the complexity of the property.
It’s always a good idea to get in touch as soon as you’ve put an offer in on a property. Booking a survey in good time allows for better planning, and also shows sellers that you are a serious buyer!
