At the end of January, Paul Marcus, a very familiar face at e.surv and a true character, will be retiring. Paul is our Regional Operations Director (ROD) in the North Region and will be replaced by Gareth Williams – currently a Senior Area Operations Manager.
It’s unfortunate that, due to the COVID restrictions across the UK, we’ll be unable to get together to send him off in our usual style.
Therefore, we’re marking Paul’s retirement throughout January with the ROD Race!
From 1 January 2021, the gloves will be off as the RODs and their willing teams of “athletes”, compete to cover the 761 miles between some of Paul’s favourite rugby grounds. All in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust.
The Teenage Cancer Trust is a charity very close to Paul’s heart. Those who know Paul will be aware of how hard he has worked to raise funds for the Trust over the last few years. So, now it’s our turn!
Walk, swim, cycle, run? It really doesn’t matter. The teams must cover the 761 miles in any way they can (although driving is cheating!). Quite simply, the winning team will be the one that completes the mileage first. And, we plan to raise as much money as possible for the Teenage Cancer Trust in the process!
Starting at Murrayfield in Edinburgh, we’ll (virtually) go across the Irish Sea to the Kingspan Stadium in Belfast, down to Dublin’s Aviva Stadium, back across the sea to the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, over to London’s Twickenham and ending at Mattioli Woods Welford Road Stadium – home of the Leicester Tigers (Paul’s home club). Take a look at the map…
We have 4 teams: Team North, Team Central, Team South, and THE CHALLENGERS. Scroll down to see who’s taking part.
Fingers crossed all teams will have completed the challenge by the end of January … but it really depends how quickly they can get their miles in and how many mince pies they’ve eaten over Christmas!
